Tanzania’s
Telecom Sector Bolstered with Entry of New Operator
…company fuses innovation and ambition to exceptionally
launch without a name!
The telecom industry in Tanzania and East
Africa has today been bolstered with the entry of a unique, straight forward,
innovative, socially responsible and maverick telecom like no other, launching
without a name.
With its underlining
promise being to raise the bar for subscribers, the new telecom launched
simultaneously in Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi with a creative online and SMS
campaign dubbed “Give Us a Name” giving East Africa the opportunity to nominate
and vote for the best name.
This first East African
telecom that truly cares and is not afraid to trust the people is a telecomlike
no other; or any company for that matter. No company across the world has ever
launched without a name setting the stage for what will be an exciting 10 day
campaign before the brand is finally unveiled.
The “Give us a Name” campaign
will run from Monday 25th November, 2013 to 4th December,
2013 online, on SMS and on Facebook in two phases. In phase one, Tanzania and
all East Africa is being asked to nominate names they would like the new
telecom that will champion New Africa to have.
You can nominate your name
through logging on to www.giveusaname.net , sending an SMS with your preferred name to the
short code15678 or logging on to www.facebook.com/giveusanameafrica .
In phase two of the
campaign, panel will review all the names and shortlist the top 5 most
nominated, unique or creative names. East Africa will now have to vote for the
best name that will eventually become the name of the first ever truly East
African telecom.
The ultimate winner, the
individual who nominates the name that will eventually become the company brand
and trading name will win 1-year
free unlimited national call SIM card. Other rewards include smartphones
and tablets for participants in the “Give us a Name”campaign.
In the spirit of new
Africa, the brand Ambassador for the campaign will be celebrated comedian HemediKhalida
“Mkwere” who has demonstrated in his line of work that he represents and stands
for the reality of “Mizengwe” which is everyday gaining momentum.
With experts forecasting
an upswing in Tanzania’s annual GDP growth from the current 4% to 7% in 2015,
the telecommunications sector is poised for extended expansion and growth in
the coming years and this new telecom represents the face of this boom.
The new telecom aims to be
the real catalyst for change in Tanzania and East Africa, truly cares and gives
and isn’t afraid to trust the people by investing money and technology in the
country.
Tanzania remains one of a
handful of countries with mobile penetration rate of less than 50% as of June
2013 and at around 50%, the total teledensity is still below the African
average.
This new
telecommunications company will most importantly reinvest the majority of every
shilling spent by subscribers on SMS, calls and the internet into long term
development of Tanzania with technology such as telemedicine and e-learning
centres.
This translates to reinvesting
the majority of profits into New Africa and with increasing subscribers for
both mobile and fixed line sectors, the best gift is a telecom that will
re-energize the anticipated healthy growth rates in the coming years.
The “Give us a Name” campaign
will end on 4th December, 2013 after which Tanzanians will get an
opportunity to book their preferred numbers ahead of the announcement and
unveiling of the new brand name and company in Tanzania and across East Africa.
The telecom is set to
unveil some of its signature products soon and it is envisaged that East Africa
will be transformed by this new telecom operator that is a caregiver, a global
citizen, and is focused on impacting people's lives by being global-thinkers.
